Here you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the FMed platform

1. What is the Flexible Training Track?

It is one of the two training tracks within the Saudi Board. The same certificate, the same competencies, and the same assessment standards apply. The difference is that your training is built around your work: at your workplace and at accredited training centers, through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) documented via micro-credentials and units of learning.

2. How does it differ from the Traditional Track?

The objective, the certificate, and the classification are the same. The difference lies in the training model, with defined professional competencies and units of learning in place of clinical rotations. Progression is tied to achieving mastery rather than the passage of time, and the flexible training is delivered within your own work environment.

3. When does the program begin? How long is it? And is my prior experience recognized?

It begins in October 2026. The estimated duration is 3-5 years, with an average of four and a half years. Each EPA has an expected timeframe, and advancement between stages is conditional on achieving the required level of mastery. Prior experience may be recognized, which may shorten the duration.

4. How will I be assessed?

Through continuous, competency-based assessment built around EPAs, in addition to principal examinations administered by the Commission, including multiple-choice questions, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and structured oral examinations.

5. What certificate will I receive? And does it qualify me for classification?

The Saudi Board Certificate, the same certificate awarded under the Traditional Track. It does not indicate the track, as you sit the SB1 and SB2 examinations and your summative assessments are aligned with the traditional assessment tools. Classification is determined in accordance with the same professional registration and classification requirements applied to the Traditional Track.

6. Where does the training take place? And do I have protected time?

At your workplace and at accredited training centers, complemented by simulation centers that provide safe, standardized training in clinical and communication skills with structured feedback. Your employer is required to allocate protected time for you and your trainers.

7. To whom do I report academically and administratively? And what are my rights?

Academically, you report to the Commission through your Program Director. Administratively, you report to your employer. The Commission's policies governing training programs apply to you as they do to all Saudi Board trainees, including rights and obligations, grievance and complaint mechanisms, professional conduct standards, and attendance requirements.

8. Who is the academic advisor, and how does the role differ from the workplace trainer/supervisor?

The Commission appoints the academic advisor and the Program Director. The advisor's role is to guide and support you academically and professionally, including setting goals, reviewing progress, discussing challenges, and providing feedback. The trainer or supervisor at the workplace is provided by your employer from among its own staff.

9. What is the FMed platform? And is the e-portfolio mandatory?

FMed is the platform through which your training is delivered. It includes the e-portfolio and the digital learning platform. Documentation in the e-portfolio is mandatory. All evidence of work-based assessment is uploaded there and shared with the assessment panel.

10. Can I transfer to the Traditional Track after admission?

No. Once admitted to the Flexible Track, you may not apply to the Traditional Track or request a transfer to another Saudi Board Program. A trainee who withdraws from the Flexible Track will not be eligible to apply to a Traditional Saudi Board Program for one year.
